Familyoven doesn't have an area (yet) for things thrown together that probably are not deserving of a recipe page all on their own, so I thought I'd share a few favorites or past favorites that were carried through my family.

Well, this is partially scientific. The capsaicin in hot peppers gives a burning sensation to the tongue but the fat of the cream cheese simultaneously coats the tongue to partially relieve it. The experiment proved successful and realized right after that it is similar to jalapeno poppers in way with the tongue teasing of the pepper with cooling, however, you eat this cold.

I was about to make an interesting cheesecake of a certain flavor, but the term "chesecake" keeps haunting me, so I aim on making a CAKE, and not a pie with cream cheese. I've never made a cake before, but understand some basics of cooking so here we go!

Hard to find sticky rice where I am and was lucky to find coconut milk! Being sticky rice is practically starchy rice, I decided to work the recipe over to accomodate the many folks who have access to more common ingredients...and added some coconut flakes for added texture and taste!

I just find this combination terrific. The split peas provides a dense and hearty sensation and the squash, a sweetness that is further complimented by the crushed black and red pepper. Added tomatoes for extra color. Try it, you will not feel left out by there not being meat in it - it is actually filling. This is easy to prepare.

I tried making bread using a frying pan in the past to see if it could be done and thereby saving energy as opposed to heating an entire oven. I am also rediscovering molasses, a terrific source for sweetness that is packed with minerals, including lithium, the lack of which may actually impart on the prevalence of of bi-polar depression exhibited today.

In the Philippines, there's a dish called ampalaya that consists of ampalaya, carrots, and egg. Ampalaya (bitter melon) is bitter and camote (sweet potato) is sweet so I decided to combine these together and it was a success.
